How to prepare for Logical Reasoning Section of SSC CGL EXAM?


Every year, Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam to fill the vacancies in various government departments.
According to the latest exam pattern, the SSC CGL Exam 2016 will have 100 questions from four sections such as :
  1. General English
  2. Quantitative Aptitude
  3. Logical Reasoning 
  4. General Studies
Out of these four, Logical Reasoning is important from scoring point of view.
Reasoning abilities are directly related to thinking, thus it needs lot of practice. “Practice makes a man perfect” goes right with this subject, as the more you practice less are the chances of any mistake, rather it will improve your accuracy. It will save your valuable time during the exam if you practice a lot. Reasoning needs smart practice in order to crack SSC CGL.
Logical Reasoning can be broadly divided into 3 sections:
  1. Verbal Reasoning
  2. Image Reasoning
  3. Logical Deduction

Verbal Reasoning

Verbal Reasoning is one of the important topic as more than half of the reasoning questions are asked from this. It includes topics like
  1. Series
  2. Sequence
  3. Classification 
  4. Coding and decoding
Puzzles given in the paper comprise of direction sense, blood relations and seating arrangements questions.
Verbal reasoning is a simple topic; it will not only help you in clearing the exam but will also help you score well. One needs to keep the tricks of alphabets and numbers on fingertips to solve such questions.

Image Reasoning

This section is non-verbal reasoning in which image of an object is given directly or indirectly as the question. Those who are aspiring for the SSC CGL Exam are expected to enhance their image understanding abilities to solve the questions of Image Reasoning.
These types of problems include a wide variety of topics:
This section includes topics like:
  1. Image Analogy
  2. Series of figures
  3. Classification problems Reflection of image in mirror and water 
  4. Cutting and folding of paper 
  5. Problems on cubes and dices.

The approach to solve these types of questions is to read the questions carefully and illustrate the idea on paper. These questions are best solved if one does regular practice and has creative thinking.

Logical Deduction

This is high-level reasoning where the final answer is concluded from the given statements. Therefore, it requires analytical understanding and through a practice of the topics.

This section includes statements with their possible conclusions to be drawn based on the suggestions and deductions. One of the simplest methods to crack such questions is by using Venn diagrams.

Make a thoughtful plan and practice a lot while preparing for SSC CGL exam especially Logical Reasoning. Don’t just make a plan but execute it effectively through regular practice.

The practice of the different reasoning ability topics will enhance your thinking capacity which will be very helpful during the exam. The best way to examine your hard work is through a mock test.

Apart from these tips one needs to keep calm and cool mind before and during the exam while solving Logical Reasoning Section. In SSC CGL exam 2017 pattern there is no sectional cut-offs therefore attempt the easy topics first and maintain accuracy.
